When it comes to talking about films and cinema, Bollywood is one of the biggest industries in the world. For years, viewers have been treated with a number of feature films of different genres. Whether it be romance, action, or comedy, Bollywood has done it all. In recent times, Bollywood filmmakers have also delved into the concept of creating films for children. Sure, kids do get their fare share of entertainment from cartoons they watch on TV, but getting them into the world of cinema with amazing storylines is also an educational experience. In the past, the likes of Raju Chacha starring Kajol and Ajay Devgn were loved by many, followed by Taare Zameen Par. And now there are even a few more. While these may not be up to the Hollywood yet, wherein children’s films is a huge market, especially around the Hollywood season, these Bollywood releases are not too bad either. But it should still not be ignored that they weren’t too successful when it came to making big money at the box office. Despite all, as the year draws to a close and we hit the big 2020 soon, here is a look back at some of the best children’s films produced in Bollywood in the past decade – and you should watch them too – with or without kids.
Chillar Party

Chillar Party was released in 2011. Directed by Vikas Bahl and Nitesh Tiwari, the film starred child actors Irfan Khan, Naman Jain, Sanath Menon and many others in titular. The movie revolves around a group of innocent and carefree children of Chandan Nagar colony which is joined by 2 strangers. But things take a turn after they join the gang as the new members are haunted by politicians – which starts to affect the rest of the children of the group as well, called the Chillar Party. The children then join forces to take down the bad politicians while also delivering a message that even kids can bring about big changes.
Stanley Ka Dabba

Stanley Ka Dabba is based on the everyday life of a school going child named Stanley in this story. He’s not wise when it comes to learning, but also a fun friend to be around. And while some teachers like his bold, carefree spirit, one teacher isn’t too fond of him. Upon finding out that Stanley forces the rest of the students of the class to share their lunch boxes with him, the teacher refuses to let Stanley enter the school if he himself brings one for himself. So what will Stanley do? Directed by Amole Gupta, the film was released in 2011 and stars Divya Dutta, Partho Gupte, Numaan Sheikh and many others – who are all part of the Dabba Gang.
Hawaa Hawaai

Hawaa Hawaai is a comedy film released in 2014 which was a tribute to people who dare to dream. It is a story of the triumph of the human spirit and friendship and making the most out of one’s journey in making their own dream become a reality. It revolves around the story of Arjun who moves to a big city with his younger sister and mother. Once in the city, he discovers in-line skating through a coach named Lucky. Lucky is a skating teacher who mentors children to excel in the art.  Arjun then too dares to dream of learning how to skate under Lucky’s mentorship. Once Arjun’s friends find out that he’s interested in pursuing it, they get together a devise a plan to make it work. Starring Makrand Deshpande, Parhto Gupte and Devraya Gole amongst many others, Hawaa Hawaai is also directed by Amole Gupte.
Bumm Bumm Bole

Released in 2010, Bumm Bumm Bole brought the star kid from Taare Zameen Pe, Darsheel, back to the silver screen. The story revolves around siblings Pinu and Rimzim who live with their parents in an area inflicted with heavy terrorism.
Bumm Bumm Bole movie is about brother and sister relationship. The parents, Khogiram and Kalyani are trying hard to make ends meet from the limited income they receive from working at a nearby tea plantation. This obviously affects Pinu and Rimzim as well, however, their father – despite being in a tough situation – sends his kids to a very respectable school because he believes in providing them the best education possible – something that he never got a chance to pursue. However, due to the lack of finances, it is difficult for the children to keep up with the standards of the school as it requires them to have a clean uniform and new shoes. Things get worse when Pinu misplaces Rimzim’s only pair of shoes in a vegetable shop. Now, she can’t go the school so the siblings think of way of sharing Pinu’s shoes and also going to school. The two finally think of a plan by Pinu always lands himself in trouble which is when he comes to know that an interschool competition is set to take place, in which the prize will be a new pair of shoes. Pinu decides to take part but does he manage to get the shoes? Find out in this fun-filled film, Bumm Bumm Bole. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film stars Atul Kulkarni, Rituparna Chatarjee and Ziyah Vastani alongside Darsheel.
Dhanak

Much Like Bumm Bumm Bole, even Dhanak revolves around the story of a brother and sister and their relationship. Pari has a younger brother Chotu who is visually impaired. She promises to get him his eyesight back before his 9th birthday. In efforts to manage to do that, she spots her favourite star, Shah Rukh Khan, on a poster for an eye donation drive. Pari’s hopes soar high as she believes her favourite star will help her for sure. But will she actually manage to help Chotu get his eyesight back? Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the film stars Krrish Chhabria, Hetal Gada and Vipin Sharma in titular roles. Released in 2015, Dhanak has managed to earn several awards for being the best children’s film.
