Dharmendra, the legendary Bollywood actor, has turned 84 today. Although one can never tell from his happy and fit persona that everyone’s favorite Dharam Ji has reached the landmark, he has proved that age is just a number. He was considered a phenomenon during the 1960s and 1970s. Dharmendra started off as a romantic hero but later branched into the genre of action. He and Amitabh Bachchan, together, were considered a sign of a film’s success. Together they did films like Sholay, Ram Balram, and many more.

Here is a throwback picture from those days.

This was the time when he fell in love with Hema Malini despite being married already. However, the two went off to get married and had two daughters namely Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Esha Deol, like her mother, father, and half brothers Sunny and Bobby Deol, decided to pursue acting and make a name for herself. Esha Deol took Instagram to share an iconic photo of Dharmendra from his glorious past with the caption,

‘Happy birthday papa love u ! Stay blessed, happy & healthy always.’

Dharmendra now spends most part of his year at his farm away from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai.

Dharmendra was born as Dharam Singh in a village in a Punjabi Sikh family at a small village in Ludhiana Punjab. His father was a school headmaster hence Dharmendra also received his early education from the same school in Ludhiana. Although he was not always interested in acting, Dharmendra was always aware of his good looks. He made his Bollywood debut in the year 1960 with the film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. Although Dharmendra worked with almost all big heroines of his time, his pairing with Meena Kumari was particularly popular. His sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are also prominent film actors.
